{"id":10595,"date":"2022-09-21T22:47:00","date_gmt":"2022-09-21T22:47:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stevegrossblog.com\/?p=10595"},"modified":"2026-10-02T01:33:48","modified_gmt":"2026-10-02T01:33:48","slug":"making-the-hole-disappear","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stevegrossblog.com\/?p=10595","title":{"rendered":"MAKING THE HOLE DISAPPEAR"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most of us have a history of hiding from photos of ourselves &#8211; and not just those produced by photographers working for school yearbooks or the BMV.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We demand veto rights over the photos that others post of us on social media.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A camera can bring some deep insecurities to the surface.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So as I have taken pictures over the past week, I have tried to ask permission.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(I am not against occasionally sneaking a shot to get something un-posed.)<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ghanaians have been pretty laid back when I have asked to take their pictures.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, though, after our final group meeting, I unintentionally produced a sad experience with my camera.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A little boy in a Dora shirt showed some curiosity about me and we tried to communicate, but we had no words in common.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So I pulled out the phone and started showing him his own image on the screen.
