John Wesley once preached the following about ‘begging’ for the poor:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cYou might properly say in your own case, \u2018To beg I am ashamed;\u2019 but never be ashamed to beg for the poor; yea, in this case, be an\u00a0importunate\u00a0beggar<\/b><\/i>.\u201d\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0(From his sermon\u00a0On Visiting the Sick<\/i>)<\/p>\n\n\n

I had to look up Importunate<\/b><\/i>:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201curgent or persistent in solicitation, sometimes annoyingly so\u201d (dictionary.com).<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

Samaritan Radio is a Christian station in Kenya launched 3 years ago with the financial and prayer support of Mission Resource\nInternational<\/b> out of Columbus, Indiana. Small but mighty Samaritan is broadcasting the good news\nof Jesus Christ every day within earshot of 30 to 50 thousand Kenyans.<\/p>\n\n\n

That message would not be going out if Mission Resource and\nits supporters didn\u2019t exist. This is a big part of what inspired me to join the\nMR team last January \u2013 we are doing essential Gospel work<\/b> in areas\nwithin developing countries where other resources are slim or non-existent. Maybe you already know about\u00a0our\napproaches and the needs that we seek to meet through Mission Resource: small, short-range investments\nin individuals and businesses in the developing world as a means to empower\npeople to support themselves and to grow in faith.<\/p>\n\n\n

Currently, I am trying to avoid having my salary cut into the further work MR could\nbe doing in Kenya, Ghana, Haiti or anywhere God calls us in the future. With\nthe current worldwide economic difficulties, the demand for the microfinance<\/b>\nservices MR offers is greater than ever.<\/p>\n\n\n

So I am attempting to get myself to the point where I can be\na \u201ctentmaker<\/b>\u201d, earning enough $ through writing and preaching on the side that\nI can devote my primary time to Mission Resource without need for a salary.<\/p>\n\n\n

I am not there yet.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n

In the meantime, I am again turning to brothers and sisters\nin Christ – like you<\/b><\/i> – who may be willing to support me as a missionary. So many friends, family members, and even strangers gave\nsacrificially to put me and my family in Haiti for 7 years. Our time there was\nfruitful then and continues to be fruitful now* and we are forever grateful for the\ngenerosity that was shown to us and the Kingdom work we were a part of.<\/p>\n\n\n

I hope you do not think I\nam being too forward to ask again for support. If so, please know that I am\nonly willing to \u201cbeg\u201d for the benefit of the poor. This is a calling God has\nput on my life and I know of no other way to fulfill it here in the short run.<\/p>\n\n\n

So I might get importunate.<\/p>\n\n\n

I have been with Mission Resource for 7 months now and I know\nit to be a trustworthy and Spirit-led<\/b> enterprise from top to bottom. Within the\nnext few weeks, I will be traveling to Ghana <\/b>to see our operations there\nfirsthand \u2013 expect my enthusiasm to skyrocket. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n\n\n
