{"id":3109,"date":"2023-02-24T03:02:00","date_gmt":"2023-02-24T03:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stevegrossblog.com\/?p=3109"},"modified":"2026-10-02T01:33:12","modified_gmt":"2026-10-02T01:33:12","slug":"off-the-roof","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stevegrossblog.com\/?p=3109","title":{"rendered":"OFF THE ROOF"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On a recent Sunday afternoon the temperatures were pleasant &#8211; for February &#8211; and I decided I&#8217;d take advantage by climbing onto the roof of our house to remove the Christmas lights.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now, my wife worries about me being up there &#8211; and for good reason. I did fall about 5 feet off the stepladder a couple of years ago and messed up my shoulder pretty good.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So I was trying to get the chore done before Melissa and Sarah left for a few hours of clothes shopping in Indianapolis. I didn&#8217;t want to risk plunging to my death when nobody was around to clean up the mess.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The task taking more time than expected, I was still up there when my wife and daughter pulled out of the drive.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thankfully, within ten minutes I had finished without incident and I figured it would be considerate of me to let my wife know I was safely back on solid ground.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But I couldn&#8217;t resist turning my announcement into a dad joke.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Knowing Melissa would be driving and not checking her phone, I sent the following picture to Sarah&#8217;s number, with the caption: &#8220;Let your mom know I am off the roof &#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/stevegrossblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/20230212_155229_HDR-2-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"4624\" height=\"2600\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Her response made my day:<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/stevegrossblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Screenshot_20230223-134909-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"921\" height=\"1184\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ginger is our Haitian street dog.<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/stevegrossblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/20221225_100324_HDR-3-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2600\" height=\"4624\"\/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On a recent Sunday afternoon the temperatures were pleasant &#8211; for February &#8211; and I decided I&#8217;d take advantage by climbing onto the roof of our house to remove the Christmas lights.\u00a0 Now, my wife worries about me being up there &#8211; and for good reason.
