A. Smith quotes an ancient prayer of St. Thomas Aquinas called <i>Ante Studium<\/i> (A Prayer Before Study):<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pour forth a ray of Your brightness<br>into the darkened places of my mind;<br>disperse from my soul<br>the twofold darkness<br>into which I was born:\u00a0<br>sin and ignorance.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You make eloquent the tongues of infants.<br>Refine my speech<br>and pour forth upon my lips<br>the goodness of Your blessing.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Grant to me<br>keenness of mind,<br>capacity to remember,<br>skill in learning,<br>subtlety to interpret,<br>and eloquence in speech.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">May You<br>guide the beginning of my work,<br>direct its progress,<br>and bring it to completion.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You Who are true God and true Man,<br>Who live and reign, world without end.<br>Amen.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Well, that&#8217;s a good reminder!
