{"id":3630,"date":"2022-07-03T04:32:00","date_gmt":"2022-07-03T04:32:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stevegrossblog.com\/?p=3630"},"modified":"2026-10-02T01:34:09","modified_gmt":"2026-10-02T01:34:09","slug":"inerrancy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stevegrossblog.com\/?p=3630","title":{"rendered":"INERRANCY"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Apostle John records some crowd dialogue in 7:25-27 of his gospel:<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><i>At that point some of the people of Jerusalem began to ask, &#8220;Isn&#8217;t this the man they are trying to kill? Here he is, speaking publicly, and they are not saying a word to him. Have the authorities really concluded that he is the Christ? But we know where this man is from; when the Christ comes, no one will know where he is from.&#8221;\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My Study Bible has this note: &#8220;Some Jews held that the OT gave the origin of the Messiah, but others believed it did not.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some Jews were wrong and some were right. But <i>all <\/i>of them <i>believed <\/i>they were right in their own interpretation of what the Bible said.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When we settle on a &#8220;correct&#8221; interpretation of any Bible passage, a good amount of humility is called for.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And even if you believe in the inerrancy of Scripture (which I recommend!), we must never lose sight of the distinction between Scripture and <i>our interpretation of Scripture<\/i>.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first is inerrant.
