{"id":3837,"date":"2024-09-09T02:14:00","date_gmt":"2024-09-09T02:14:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stevegrossblog.com\/?p=3837"},"modified":"2026-10-02T01:31:57","modified_gmt":"2026-10-02T01:31:57","slug":"priesthood-of-believers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stevegrossblog.com\/?p=3837","title":{"rendered":"PRIESTHOOD OF BELIEVERS"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since I was looking into Melchizedek this past week and thinking about the Old Testament priesthood in general, I ended up looking at Peter&#8217;s description of believers all together serving as a &#8220;royal priesthood&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I suppose there are many different angles to that analogy. Among them:<\/p>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n\n<li>&#8220;Offering spiritual sacrifices to God&#8221; (1 Peter 2:5)<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Practicing holiness &#8211; being set apart for God&#8217;s purpose (2:9)<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Being in God&#8217;s &#8220;employment&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Proclaiming God&#8217;s goodness to the world (2:9)<\/li>\n\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Peter goes on to urge his readers to submit themselves to every earthly authority (2:13) and to be willing to suffer for doing good (2:19).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Verse 15 is worth a bit of meditation: &#8220;For it is God\u2019s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorance of foolish men.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How do we silence those who are opposed to God&#8217;s ways?<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By shouting them down? No.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By shaming them? No.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By getting righteously angry with them? No.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Simply by continuing in doing good.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fundamentally, I see this fact in our call to be a royal priesthood:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On our end, we are not called to be in an adversarial relationship with the world.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Since I was looking into Melchizedek this past week and thinking about the Old Testament priesthood in general, I ended up looking at Peter&#8217;s description of believers all together serving as a &#8220;royal priesthood&#8221;.
