Stanley Jones, described seeing &#8220;many a missionary leave loved ones, friends, home, business, prospects, and come to other lands and find that he had given up everything except &#8211; just himself. Self was still there, assertive and jealous of its place and honor. Jesus asks us to lay down that last thing.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the mission field, this type can lay waste to entire ministries and, worse, bring dishonor on the Gospel. (In a place where it\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They are more dangerous than &#8220;average&#8221; Christian who refuse to lay down their own lives &#8211; although these do their own share of damage in local churches and communities.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The missionary who has not laid down his (or her) own life is more dangerous because the result is a &#8220;believer&#8221; who feels a great sense of self-righteousness at having made so many other sacrifices.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And self-righteousness is a destructive force.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s a quote for my missionary friends &#8211; I know they have seen this themselves&#8230; The famous missionary from a previous era, E.
