{"id":4183,"date":"2013-02-20T05:06:00","date_gmt":"2013-02-20T05:06:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stevegrossblog.com\/?p=4183"},"modified":"2026-10-02T01:35:55","modified_gmt":"2026-10-02T01:35:55","slug":"new-shoes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stevegrossblog.com\/?p=4183","title":{"rendered":"New Shoes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: white\">I wasn&#8217;t going to update the blog tonight, because I&#8217;m dog-tired and because I knew it would take FOREVER to download any pictures with the internet connection here such as it is.\u00a0 BUT then I opened the file of pics from this afternoon, and I just had to share them &#8211; I guess updating the blog here tonight is my way of saying, &#8220;I wish you could have been there!&#8221;<\/span><span style=\"color: white\">Jane picked Dats and me up at Cowman School after the final bell &#8211; 2:30.\u00a0 (By the way, my classroom time felt very productive to me this past week &#8211; I think I accomplished everything in person that I knew I couldn&#8217;t over the internet.)\u00a0 We were happily joined by the Bundy kids.<\/span><span style=\"color: white\">When we arrived at Jane&#8217;s house, we quickly headed down the road to pick up the kids from The Potter&#8217;s House &#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/stevegrossblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/100_5149-2-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: white\">When we got to the orphanage, we found that we had missed them &#8211; they were walking by the main road to Bud and Jane&#8217;s house!\u00a0 The Bundys got a quick tour of the house.\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t get a good picture of the &#8220;dining room&#8221; the other day, so I snapped one today.\u00a0 To the right is a long table and the colorful things on top are baskets.\u00a0 I assume some of the evening&#8217;s meal had already been prepared and the overturned baskets are meant to keep the insects at bay.\u00a0 Can you imagine cooking for 18 kids and 4 adults every day?<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/stevegrossblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/100_5150-2-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/stevegrossblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/100_5151-2-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: white\">They were waiting for us!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/stevegrossblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/100_5168-2-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: white\">It didn&#8217;t take too long before the boys (and a handful of girls) were playing soccer.\u00a0 Kids were running every which way.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/stevegrossblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/100_5171-2-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: white\">Some of the girls were clustered around baby Sammy, giving him lots of attention &#8211; and he was eating it up.\u00a0 Bud and Jane say that he&#8217;s a natural &#8220;chick magnet&#8221;.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/stevegrossblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/100_5157-2-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: white\">And before\u00a0we knew it, the afternoon was over and the Potter&#8217;s kids headed homeward down the lane\u00a0to prepare for their evening meal &#8211;
