{"id":4997,"date":"2022-10-31T02:35:00","date_gmt":"2022-10-31T02:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stevegrossblog.com\/?p=4997"},"modified":"2026-10-02T01:33:48","modified_gmt":"2026-10-02T01:33:48","slug":"loaning-to-the-lord","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stevegrossblog.com\/?p=4997","title":{"rendered":"LOANING TO THE LORD"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How have I missed this Scripture verse up to this point?<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Proverbs 19:17 says:<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><i>Kindness to the poor is loaning to the Lord, and He will repay.<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That is a really unusual metaphor and I can&#8217;t quite wrap my head around it.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is one of those proverbs that stands in the midst of a cluster of independent verses &#8211; there is not further context in surrounding verses.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is just dropped in the middle of chapter 19 as a universal truth.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although 19:17 gives the impression that our finances ultimately belong to us, this surely isn&#8217;t the point of the proverb. The rest of Scripture makes it clear that we are simply stewards of the resources God gives.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That would indicate the emphasis is on how we are blessed in equal measure by God when we remember the poor and provide for their needs.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I think it is a verse that needs to go on our Mission Resource website!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How have I missed this Scripture verse up to this point?
