{"id":5180,"date":"2022-09-17T22:26:00","date_gmt":"2022-09-17T22:26:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stevegrossblog.com\/?p=5180"},"modified":"2026-10-02T01:33:48","modified_gmt":"2026-10-02T01:33:48","slug":"elmina-castle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stevegrossblog.com\/?p=5180","title":{"rendered":"ELMINA CASTLE"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since it was Saturday and since one of my goals is simply to get to know Ghana and her culture, Conrad took me this morning to the Elmina Castle.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This fortress is THE predominant historical site in this part of Ghana. And it deserves to be better known worldwide.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You see, Elmina Castle was ground zero for the African slave trade. The Portuguese built the impressive structure to establish a foothold in Africa&#8217;s Guinea Coast in 1482.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This was an entire decade before Christopher Columbus&#8217; first trip to the New World!<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here is the main courtyard.
