Here’s an incredible passage from the 103rd Psalm, one of my favorites:<\/p>\n\n\n
8 The LORD is compassionate and gracious,<\/i>
<\/i>slow to anger, abounding in loving devotion.<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n
9 He will not always accuse us,<\/i>
<\/i>nor harbor His anger forever.<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n
10 He has not dealt with us according to our sins<\/i>
<\/i>or repaid us according to our iniquities.<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n
11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth,<\/i>
<\/i>so great is His loving devotion for those who fear Him.<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n
12 As far as the east is from the west,<\/i>
<\/i>so far has He removed our transgressions from us.<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n
13 As a father has compassion on his children,<\/i>
<\/i>so the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him.<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n
14 For He knows our frame;<\/i>
<\/i>He is mindful that we are dust.<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n
I don’t recall ever hearing a sermon on this particular passage from a Calvinist or any other “Wrath of God”-type.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n
What would they do with it?\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n
Now granted, the majority of this passage is describing how God relates to “those who fear Him” and not necessarily to the general population. Still, verse 8 makes a general statement about the Lord: He is slow <\/b><\/i>to anger <\/u>and abounding <\/b><\/i>in loving devotion<\/u>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n
Like a parent, right?<\/p>\n\n\n
I often wonder what drives some believers to emphasize God’s anger and wrath over His love?\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n
