Saw a Facebook post from a friend today – a snippet of an old R. C. Sproul video.<\/p>\n\n\n
In it, Sproul says this of the common expression “God hates the sin but loves the sinner”:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n
“That’s nonsense!<\/i>“<\/p>\n\n\n
In fact, Sproul goes on to explain, far from loving sinners, God actually “abhors” every unrepentant sinner.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n
God abhors <\/b><\/i>people!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n
Need proof? Sproul doesn’t point to any particular Scripture verse, but he offers this logic: if God didn’t abhor unrepentant sinners, why would he throw them into hell for eternity?<\/p>\n\n\n
If you hold to hell as eternal conscious torment, God’s hatred for His creatures – at least a significant portion of them – makes logical sense as a conclusion.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n
Sproul was a mega-Calvinist and his reputation continues to be high among the Reformed.<\/p>\n\n\n
But it sure is hard to square God’s hatred of so many of the souls He created with Scripture’s contention that “God is love”!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
