{"id":7016,"date":"2023-07-07T02:39:00","date_gmt":"2023-07-07T02:39:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stevegrossblog.com\/?p=7016"},"modified":"2026-10-02T01:33:09","modified_gmt":"2026-10-02T01:33:09","slug":"good-news-for-the-perfectionist-1-cor-1312-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stevegrossblog.com\/?p=7016","title":{"rendered":"GOOD NEWS FOR THE PERFECTIONIST &#8211; 1 COR 13:12"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anyone can second guess an important decision &#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n\n<li>Buying a used car<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Choosing one college over another<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Getting engaged<\/li>\n\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But expert-level overthinkers like myself can fourth, fifth, and sixth guess even trivial decisions &#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n\n<li>What do I do first?<\/li>\n\n\n<li>How should I spend the next hour?<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Should I eat that?<\/li>\n\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I know this is tied to my perfectionistic tendencies. If I think about it long enough, surely I will find the perfect solution. If I don&#8217;t think it through well enough, I am likely to make a mistake.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But certainty is elusive, so I go round and round in my mind.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Knowing this is how I am wired, I take great comfort in 1 Corinthians 13:12\u00a0 &#8220;Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It encourages me to recognize that perfection and certainty are necessarily elusive. BECAUSE my knowledge is incomplete.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just before this passage, Paul writes, &#8220;When perfection comes, the imperfect disappears&#8221; (10).<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">True perfection is coming One Day. And all that is imperfect will fade away. Meaningless.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That&#8217;s good news to the perfectionist: Your striving for perfection isn&#8217;t wrong, it&#8217;s just premature. Give it time and some day you will see God reveal the Perfect.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Until then, admit to yourself that you know <i>nothing <\/i>in full.
