{"id":7057,"date":"2024-06-19T02:16:00","date_gmt":"2024-06-19T02:16:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stevegrossblog.com\/?p=7057"},"modified":"2026-10-02T01:32:23","modified_gmt":"2026-10-02T01:32:23","slug":"typical-american","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stevegrossblog.com\/?p=7057","title":{"rendered":"TYPICAL AMERICAN?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For most of my life the American stereotype overseas seemed to be &#8220;the obnoxious American&#8221; &#8211; the loudmouth foreigner who thought the whole world revolved around him and his needs.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I wonder what the world currently thinks of when they imagine a typical American?<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last week I had a short conversation with a woman from another country. She&#8217;s been living and working in Columbus for two years.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She described life in her home culture as being hard and dangerous. She sometimes feared for her children&#8217;s lives.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She said in Indiana she didn&#8217;t have to worry over her children and for that she was grateful.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But she missed her home country.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And then she said something that caught me off guard and I have been pondering ever since:<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I like the United States.
