{"id":7246,"date":"2024-02-15T03:31:00","date_gmt":"2024-02-15T03:31:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stevegrossblog.com\/?p=7246"},"modified":"2026-10-02T01:32:27","modified_gmt":"2026-10-02T01:32:27","slug":"the-importance-of-being-edited","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stevegrossblog.com\/?p=7246","title":{"rendered":"THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EDITED"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over the last few days, I have been gifted with two self-published books, one on fasting and the second a spiritual memoir.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both were of sufficient interest to me that I did some reading, finishing the first and making good progress on the second.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both are written with passion, insight, and wisdom.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both are very engaging.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But neither author knew a good editor, apparently.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One author seemed to have an excess of commas he was trying to use up. And he sprinkled typos everywhere &#8211; including two chapter titles.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The other author&#8217;s work would have been greatly strengthened by removing 25% of his words.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What a shame.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;m not sure how a person figures out how to write a book, format it, and publish it without learning the importance of a good editor.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Seems like a key step!<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An author needs a friend who is not afraid to say, &#8220;This could be better.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Heck, we all could use a friend like that.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over the last few days, I have been gifted with two self-published books, one on fasting and the second a spiritual memoir.
