Of the 10 commandments, only 2 are positive: “Remember the Sabbath” and “Honor your father and mother.” All others are negative: “Do not kill”, “Do not covet”, “Do not make idols”, et cetera.<\/p>\n\n\n
The focus is on so-called sins of commission – doing things we ought not do.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n
Less attention is given to sins of omission – not doing the things we ought to do.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n
When Jesus comes on the scene, he gives 2 commandments saying these sum up ALL the other laws.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n
Surprisingly, they are both positive: “Love God with all your heart, soul, strength, and mind” and “Love others as you love yourself”.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n
Whenever we talk about sin, our minds seem to go automatically to sins of commission: drinking too much, gambling, smoking, cheating on our taxes, lying, and so on.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n
But I find that as I grow in maturity as a Christian, sins of commission are becoming easier to avoid. (Thank you, Holy Spirit!)\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n
It is the sins of omission where I continue to need to be challenged.<\/p>\n\n\n
