{"id":9675,"date":"2022-11-09T03:22:00","date_gmt":"2022-11-09T03:22:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stevegrossblog.com\/?p=9675"},"modified":"2026-10-02T01:33:47","modified_gmt":"2026-10-02T01:33:47","slug":"election-day-memory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stevegrossblog.com\/?p=9675","title":{"rendered":"ELECTION DAY MEMORY"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Back when I was a teen, I learned an important lesson on politics from my father.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I don&#8217;t recall the exact circumstances &#8211; maybe the U.S. was in the midst of the Iran-Contra mess &#8211; but I remember hearing my dad say something critical of Ronald Reagan.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I was shocked.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Wait a minute &#8211; I thought we were Republicans!&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dad responded, &#8220;Well, he&#8217;s wrong.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even without any further explanation from dad, the lesson lodged tight in my brain: Don&#8217;t let party loyalty blind you to the facts.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(The lesson has applications beyond politics, too.)<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To this day I believe\u00a0that the more we can shake off absolute party loyalty, the better off we will be as a nation.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Back when I was a teen, I learned an important lesson on politics from my father.
