This is My Dad’s Blog

My dad is too humble to give himself a proper introduction, so I took it upon myself to publish this new site for him as the tech guy of the family. The writings are all his own, accumulated over the last 16 years and counting.

My father has been a high school English teacher, a missionary teacher to Haiti, a youth pastor, and is now an old pastor (Ha! He likes a good zinger). He holds a Masters in Divinity from Asbury and a continued interest in pursuing life as a Christian.

He has written over 2000 blog posts, but has only a modest following. My favorite thing about my dad’s writing is that he does it for himself, because he enjoys writing, and so we, as his audience, get a window into knowing who he is and what he thinks about.

One of my favorite images on this blog is of my dad kayaking with two young children seated in front of him. He is rescuing them from hurricane flood waters that were rising up so high that pieces of neighborhoods were turning into islands where the residents were trapped.

Our time in Haiti was filled with these kind of moments, however, over half of my father’s writings come after moving back.

There remains more for him to write about because the presence of God has radically transformed life for every member of the Gross family. All the moments like the kayak rescuing in Haiti, where it felt like we were just in the right place at the right time to help, was in reality the fruit of many years of active faith.

And so, speaking on behalf also of my brother and two sisters, thanks for the first 2000 dad! We need at least 2000 more.

Sincerely,
Samuel Gross (Ida)

To see the world, things dangerous to come to, to see behind walls, draw closer, to find each other, and to feel. That is the purpose of life.”
